H'okai, so. Here's the earth.

I'm a member of this comm on LJ where, like, we talk about whatever, there's no such thing as taboo topics there, but we talk about a lot of fluffy random stuff, too. (Hi Julie, I've seen you there! :D)

So, anyway. Today there was a post asking:

"Have you ever come across a minor character in a story who jumped out at you and caught your notice, despite their minor role and minimal impact on events?"

The first comment made my day:

My personal favorite comes on page 3 of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone:

"And finally, bird-watchers everywhere have reported that the nation's owls have
been behaving very unusually today. Although owls normally hunt at night and are
hardly ever seen in daylight, there have been hundreds of sightings of these birds
flying in every direction since sunrise. Experts are unable to explain why the owls
have suddenly changed their sleeping pattern." The newscaster allowed himself a
grin. "Most mysterious. And now, over to Jim McGuffin with the weather. Going to be
any more showers of owls tonight, Jim?"

"Well, Ted," said the weatherman...

I'm convinced that is Ted Tonks. Not sure if that's quite what you mean, but yeah. It's what I got.

lol. Ted Tonks is a newscaster for the BBC.

Bahaha, it is so weird bumping into people there, because I -- am truthful there in a way that I'm not in my own journals? Like, talking to a roomful of strangers means you can be so much more candid about your life, so I have sometimes shared more than I'm used to. And I recognised someone in comments on the desktop wallpaper post who was an old old old friend from my oldest RP clique (she was the only one from that group that I'd spoken to on the phone, too), but it's been so long and we were never that close, despite my best efforts, SO I decided not to pull the "OMG HELLO WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE" card on her.

And now I have tl;dred again.

BUT YES HELLO :D

Sadly, I don't comment there nearly as much as I want to. :( I need to get more active in commenting! And I think that whole thing you said about being more candid about your life to a roomful of strangers thing is why so many of us glommed onto online journaling in the first place, and why we talk about so much more stuff in our jornals than we would IRL. Or at least I do.

Lol, though whenever I see your username, I'm like "... should I say hi? >>"

I actually like that the weatherman is named McGuffin.
