whee
So, ages ago, I reposted the 3 things meme over here, since I got only one hit to it on my LJ. I did slightly better here, getting two hits. >> Anyway, here are the pictures requested by Khushi and Darcy. WHO ROCK MORE THAN THE REST OF Y'ALL. :P
My Favorite Books Khushi and Darcy both asked for this, and since I don't have just one favorite book, I took pictures of four of them. XD Lucky that I got my books back, since all four of these were boxed up.
The Secrets of Jin-Shei by Alma Alexander
On the Banks of Lethe by James Grant
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
Favorite Place in the House Khushi asked for this.
My desk. XD I'm usually sitting here with the computers on and AIM, mozilla, and various other programs running, even if I'm not actively internetting. I often sit at my chair, my feet propped up on the desk or the small drawer unit next to the desk, reading, or playing my DS, or working in puzzle magazines, or watching TV or movies.
Any Stuffed Animals Khushi asked for this. Bear in mind that the vast majority of my stuffed animals are presently boxed up in storage, due to the house being on the market. These are simply the stuffed animals that stuck around (or have been acquired since then).
My Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls that my grandma and mom made me when I was little. Somewhere along the way, Ann's apron got lost, though. :( They're hanging out on my window seat with a couple of beanie babies that hid under my bed while I was boxing up the rest of their friends.
A wicker basket of beanie babies (that are not mine) sitting on my dresser, to make my room feel more like "a little girl's room." I actually own copies of most (if not all) of these beanies, they're just boxed up in storage.
My Smokey and Marble kitties. They're "Furreal newborns" or something like that. I bought them shortly after my baby Smokey kitty died four months after our Marble kitty died in my sophomore year of college. We'd had them for roughly thirteen or fourteen years, and I was really upset when they died. :( Stephen (my younger brother) has a box with our dog's ashes, Chris (my older brother) has the box with Marble's ashes, and I have the box with Smokey's ashes. Although you can't see it in the picture of my desk, because my chair is in the way, the box sits on my desk with one of our cats' toy mice on top of it, since Smokey used to always sit on my lap while I was at the computer.
Pooky! I've had him since I was a baby. He was a First Christmas present from my grandparents, and he's lived on my bed ever since. He's the one stuffed animal that always came up to school with me, and for a long time, I brought him with me on vacations, until I started worrying about him getting left behind in a hotel room, or about what would happen if the plane crashed. But if we travel via motorhome or something, he usually comes with.
This is Kaylee!monkey. Stephen made her for me for Christmas 2006. Sadly, Build-A-Bear doesn't have overalls or coveralls or anything, so she's just in khaki pants and a girly shirt and hiking boots.
My blue monkey. I actually completely forgot about him hanging there when I was boxing up most of my stuffed animals. I won him at an amusement park (either Cedar Point or a Six Flags) at one of those "guess your age / weight / month of birth" stands. Well, okay. TECHNICALLY I didn't win him. They have a tendency to actually guess too close to my age and weight, so I fronted the money for them to guess Stephen's weight. XD He's a skinny little stick of a dude with a sunken chest, no butt, and practically no torso at all, but when he's, y'know, wearing jeans and an oversized t-shirt, you can't see any of that, so you think that surely this 6'2" guy in front of you must surely have at least something resembling a human body under that, so they always guess in the 200s. XD He's 170. (Btw, the ribbons hanging behind him are the ribbons that my grandmother won for the quilt on the bed, which she made for me as a graduation-from-college present.)
The kitty was in my Christmas stocking from my parents in 2004. I "was surprised" to find it in my stocking ... or at least I pretended to be. XD In reality, I picked it out (and similar animals for my brothers, I think a dog for Stephen's stocking and a dragon for Chris') with my mom at Quilt Festival that year, and "didn't see her buy them, ahem." This actually happens quite frequently with regards to stocking materials, I help my mom shop and end up "not seeing her buy" things for me that are the same or similar to what she's getting my brothers for their stockings. xD It usually doesn't spoil the fun for me, though, because about 95% of the time, I've forgotten what I helped her pick out by Christmas morning.
The bear I bought just a couple weeks ago at the Paramount Theatre. He's a Houdini Bear, such named not just because he's all dressed up like a magician, but because the Paramount opened in 1915, and in 1916, Houdini performed there. We have information about Houdini and his performance at The Majestic (as it was then known) in the upstairs lounge, and one of the things we always point out to curious patrons is the "Houdini Hole" in the ceiling, where they actually drilled a hole in the ceiling to allow for a rope to pass through, for one of his escapes. Supposedly the pulleys are still up there.
My blue Yoshi! My friend Nancy bought it for me at A-Kon this year, as a belated birthday present. Blue Yoshi is totally the best one in Super Mario World, since no matter what color shell he eats, he can always FLY afterwards. That's totally better than any of the other Yoshis.
I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy! :D I've had this jellyfish beanie baby since before Finding Nemo, but after having seen the movie, I moved Squishy to a home on top of my computer monitor. It was a lot easier to perch him on my old monitor than it is to perch him on my new flat-panel one.
Something Purple Darcy asked for this.
My bed. XD It's the purple-est thing in my room, lol, with the purple (kitty) quilt and the two purple pillows that have no use whatsoever except to make the bed look nicer when people are looking at the house. Well, the big purple pillow is nice to rest my head and arms on when I'm lying on my stomach on my bed, watching TV. (See that expanse of off-white at the bottom of the picture? THAT IS THE FOOTBOARD OF DOOM AND PAIN. I cannot count the number of times I've bashed my toes or thighs against that blasted thing, and one time my chair almost tipped backward, and if I hadn't caught myself, I'd've bashed my head against the corner. THE THING IS EVIL.)
Something That Makes Me Smile Darcy asked for this.
EL CHAT! :D I just took this picture tonight, when I realized I still hadn't taken a picture for "something that makes you smile," and EL chat always makes me smile (and lol). It's one of the things I missed most when I was taking my break from RP, was the lulz from the nightly EL chat.
