Occupation: Transfiguration Professor @ RLA
How are they qualified? If you were to ask TJ how he is qualified to teach transfiguration, he will go into a long speech about how he is considered to be something of an expert in the field of transfiguration (thankyouverymuch). Why, just look at these journal articles that he has written, and the book that he consulted on! And, really, teaching the next generation about transfiguration is yet another contribution he can make to the field. Although he has never actually taught children before, he has given lectures about transfiguration.
How did they get involved in the school? Two of his mates (Boyd MacFusty [who also happens to be his brother-in-law] and Edward Williamson) work at the school and when the transfiguration position opened up, they told him about it. TJ applied and got the job. He will be just starting for the 2009 - 2010 school year on September 1st.
If a professor, what is their demeanor as a professor? TJ doesn't quite understand why not every student loves Transfiguration as much as he does. Why, it's a positively fascinating subject! He definitely plays favourites with the students who demonstrate a strong inclination toward or enjoyment of transfiguration and he is definitely friendly to them; those who clearly don't like the subject are often subjected to strong-armed attempts by TJ to convince them of how great the subject is. And if you love transfiguration and are just Not Good at it, he's happy to try to tutor you because a love of a subject ought to be rewarded. TJ doesn't particularly perceive of himself as a hard grader or an easy grader, mostly because this is his first time actually teaching, so he's getting the hang of being on the other side of assignments, exams, and grading.
